Aug. 27th, 2005 11:53 pmStatsCan: Culture workers make less money than other Canadians
Shocked.
Although I will point out that they/we just earn less than average. It's not like we earn less than Subway servers. If you're talking about people in my current kind of position, people who do the same work as peers with corporate employers but get paid less for it, then it's more like we're the whiny ass-end of the professional class, which, really, now that I think about it, smack us in the mouth. Cultural workers as in people who create art, well, yes, woefully under-everything, although, again, we could be Sandwich Artists.
Interestingly:
I tried to figure out the reason for this and was dissatisfied with all of my hypotheses.
Wicked toys
Find out where I can get these. There's also an article on the resurgence of Drawing in the Art World (whatever) that mentioned Marcel Dzama, whose root beer drawings you saw if you went to the Sobey show like I told you to.
...and Ed the Happy Clown in Historical Context.
Particularly inspiring bit:
My main problem is that inspiration invents much faster than hand can draw.
In unrelated news, I am worried about The Good Doctor and the hurricane.
I am in Gibsons. It is very good. I am sunburnt and my forearms are swollen to Popeye barrels from kayaking.

Interestingly:
Women in the culture industry, according to the study, are catching up faster than those outside it.

Particularly inspiring bit:
As Brown recalls in his notes, the book had its genesis in a creative rut he was experiencing during the early 1980s. After a chance reading of a book about surrealism, Brown decided to throw caution to the wind and draw a completely improvised comic, foregoing many traditional cartooning processes like pencilling or ruling out panel borders.
