flora report: first of the year

There are buds on the cherry trees. Still shut up tight. From close to, they're easy to miss. From a distance, even though the buds are not open yet, the trees have a pinkish cast, almost an aura. They radiate the potential of pink.

My bedroom window is exactly at ground level, and just outside it there is a clutch of snowdrops in bloom.

There are even buds, still folded tight into themselves, on the lilac tree.

Spring is coming.
